So, here we are…#Inktober2018 and I have finally decided to stop wimping out and take on the challenge!
The Plan of Action
I decided to ease myself in, in an attempt to succeed rather than fail. With going to work full time, the time I do have is very limited so instead of uploading every single day I chose to create a piece every other day. My hope was that I would have a full day to work on a piece and then finalise and upload on the following day.
The prompts I followed were by artist @keely.elle and my challenge to myself was to use the prompt words as inspirations for fashion designs/illustrations. I wanted to create a new fashion look for every (other) prompt and then present them all stood together at the end as a collection.
Supplies
I wanted to improve my layering technique with pencil, biro and ink so the supplies I used were:
Prisma col-erase in Black (a very small one)
Pentel BK77 Superb fine ballpoint pen
Pigma Micron ink pens - size 0.05 mm & 0.2 mm
On Daler Rowney bristol board paper - 250 gsm/115lb
Not to overwhelm myself, I prepped all my designs/drawings beforehand so I had less to stress me out time wise when it came to October. For some sections of the drawings I wasn’t happy with certain sections so I redrew them and put them back together in Photoshop.
Here is the result of my initial sketches:
THE FIRST HALF
As the halfway point approached I was feeling good. I had a rhythm going and my drawing/editing/uploading schedule was going to plan. This every other day upload plan is something I will definitely take into the challenge next year.
The result
As the challenge grew nearer to the end I was tired and lacking the motivation to keep drawing. I guess that is the whole point of the challenge - to see if you can push through and persevere when your brain just wants to give up or at least change the format of what you are doing. I am pleased to say I made it to the end!! These are my final illustrations:
